He who leads, with diligence

he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

Romans 12:8 NKJV

Before opening my Bible, I have gotten into the habit of praying to God for understanding and guidance toward what He wants me to get from the reading of His Word. With my limited time (sound familiar?), I wish for my reading and comprehension to be as effective as possible.

This morning, my mind gravitated toward the following: "he who leads, with diligence," from Romans 12:8. I lingered on that word "diligence," then I researched the word.

Diligence

In practice, diligent behavior shows up as methodical planning, regular progress checks, and a willingness to invest the necessary time and energy to achieve high-quality results. It involves:

• Attention to detail: checking work, catching errors
• Persistence: staying focused over time
• Responsibility: taking ownership of outcomes and following through on commitments

Through my research, I also found out that chapters one through six of the Book of Nehemiah offer a timeless blueprint for diligent behavior, so I've placed a ribbon there for a future reading.
